Old Man Smiling Portrait – Digital Study – 11 may 2021
Inspiring Reference of an Old Man Smiling
This time, I selected a Black & White Picture by photographer Angelina Litvin (@linalitvina on Unsplash):
Black & White is a designated reference type if you want to learn the secrets of shading your artwork realistically.
Making the Portrait
The main objective here was to convey a friendly image of the character by applying a cartoon appearance and fair colors.
On a burgundy background, I layed the first skin tones and clothes shapes.
After getting an overall vision of the result, I dressed the old man comfortably.
Now, adding the last detail with the green glasses 🥸, I could appreciate the final below:
Here it is 🤩! As often, I like this little cartoon-like appearance.
AfterThoughts
Today, I consider this portrait to be one my favorite pieces. Although the skin tones seem too dark for me, I admit the eyes and the glasses transparency is well drawn, and the face is I believe quite accurate compared to the reference.
