Golden Face – Mixing Oil & Acrylic Paintings – The 4 1/4 – 15 june 2021
Selecting a methodology
For this one, I tried to extremely simplify my technique and ended up with the “Areas Make It Simple” method.
Step 1: Selecting the Colors/Shades
Mark a number of shades you see (or you choose) on the photo & number them.
Step 2: Sketching
Start sketching the reference or your imagined portrait.
SKetching and separating the shades.
Step 3: Areas
Separate it into areas in function of the shades you selected before.
Any symbols you’re familiar with will do
Step 4: Number the areas
Applying the shades
Respect this listing and point the different shades on your sketch. 1 area = 1 shade.
Step 5: Color Time!
Coloring/Painting
Choose the same number of colour (shades) among your material & apply them on your paper, areas per areas.
Tip: Apply from the darker to the brighter
This way, you can see how much contrast you want to add.
Done! – Golden Face Result
Voilà! Add a little background to revive the portrait and step back a second…. I added some fresh flowers for the picture.
Give it a name
I called this piece Golden Face and created it in 2020. It’s one of my latest paintings and I like it mostly for the contrast between the sandy golden background and the dark and shiny acrylic face.
A pleasure!
